The MPS-1600-OTIS is an Otis elevator leveling sensor. Its primary function is to accurately detect the position of the elevator car during operation, providing critical signals for leveling control. This ensures the elevator stops accurately at each floor, with the car sill aligned with the door sill for convenient passenger entry and exit.
The leveling sensor determines whether the elevator has reached its target floor by emitting and receiving light or magnetic field signals. When the elevator approaches the target floor, the sensor sends a leveling signal to the elevator control system based on the preset sensing distance and signal changes. The control system then adjusts the elevator's speed and braking force based on these signals to achieve precise leveling.

The MPS-1600-OTIS leveling sensor operates primarily based on the principle of photoelectric sensing.
This leveling sensor is typically installed at the bottom or top of the elevator car, with a reflector installed at the corresponding location in the hoistway. When the elevator is in motion, the sensor emits a beam of light that hits the reflector in the hoistway, which then reflects the light back to the sensor. Before the elevator reaches the target floor, the sensor receives the reflected light signal. However, when the elevator car reaches the leveling position, the relative position between the sensor and the reflector changes, resulting in a loss of reflected light or a significant change in the intensity of the received light. The sensor converts this optical signal change into an electrical signal and transmits it to the elevator control system. The elevator control system uses this signal to determine whether the elevator has reached the leveling position and controls actions such as deceleration, stopping, and door opening.
